There are 3 challenges per year, running from January 1 to May 1, May 1 to September 1 and September 1 to January 1. The overlap day can be used to finish up old goals or to start on new ones. You must sign up for each challenge within one month of the beginning of the challenge (i.e. by January 31, May 31 or Sept. 30).
The purpose of the UFO Challenge is to give you some incentive and
encouragement to finish up those UFO's that are filling up space where
you could put more fabric.
The first part of the challenge is to look at your UFO's and decide what you'd like to accomplish over the next four months. Since we all have differing amounts of time, resources, skills, etc., I'm not going to say "finish x number of quilts." Instead, think about what's realistic for you to get done in the next few months and set some quilting goals for yourself. Challenge yourself, but don't overwhelm yourself with more than you can possibly get done. Also, don't feel bad if you get to the end of the challenge and you haven't finished everything on your list - I never quite finish everything on my list, but I do get a lot of stuff done that would continue to sit around untouched otherwise - that's the real goal.
For the Challenge, set 7 quilting goals (you can have more or less than 7, but 7 will be the maximum for the drawing). At least one goal should be to finish a quilt, but a goal could also be to finish a significant chunk of a quilt. For example, a goal could be to finish piecing a quilt top or to get a certain amount of hand quilting done. Several people in past challenges have set goals to organize their sewing room or figure out how to use that new quilting software.
To join the Challenge, set your goals, post them to the list and send me one fat quarter for the drawing. My address is on the membership list or you can email me and I'll send it to you. Please include 35 cents with your fat quarter to help defray the cost of sending the fat quarters to the winners.
Also, please remember to send good quality fabric and make sure it is a full 18" by 22". Send fabric that you would want to win!
Each Challenge lasts 4 months For each goal you meet during that time, you will get one chance in the drawing for the fat quarters. If you finish 3 goals, 3 chances, etc. up to a total of 7 chances. The number of winners will depend on how many fat quarters I end up with.
***How to get extra chances in the drawing***
For each goal you finish, you will also have the option to send in
another fat quarter. If you send in an extra fat quarter when you
finish a goal, you double your chances of winning. Your name will
automatically go in the drawing one time for each goal you finish. If
you choose to send in an extra fat quarter as well, your name will go
in the drawing twice for that goal.
For example, if you finish 3 UFO's, your name will go in the drawing 3 times. If you finish 3 UFO's and send in 3 extra fat quarters, your name will go in the drawing 6 times. You can send an extra fat quarter for none, any, or all of the goals you meet, up to a total of 7.
This should increase the amount of fabric in the pot, and also give you a chance to increase your odds if you don't get all your goals done (or even if you do!).
Any questions? Start making those lists and Good Luck with your projects and maybe winning some new fabric!
